Notable Works

Aeschylus was an ancient Athenian playwright who is universally recognized as the "Father of Tragedy" and the earliest of Greece's three great tragic dramatists alongside Sophocles and Euripides. He fundamentally revolutionized Western theater by introducing a second actor, which allowed for genuine dialogue and character conflict on stage instead of just a single actor interacting with a chorus. Of his estimated ninety plays, his most celebrated surviving masterpiece is The Oresteia—a powerful trilogy comprising Agamemnon, The Libation Bearers, and The Eumenides—which explores profound themes of justice, revenge, and the transition from blood feuds to a legal judicial system.
